The german imperial state was born out of militarism and ends with the loss of the first world war. Many germans were supportive to large armies and navies. Germans were just as interested in the war as other countries. While there was initial enthusiasm the german people did not want to fight a war against the russians. Germans were able to raise a large many of soldiers for both fronts. Bit of a problem when the war breaks out as the military takes over these places. A multiplicity of bureaucratic mechanisms were setup to control the state. 30% of the german population worked in agriculture. People in the countryside were able to get food during the war. Large amount of black markets in germany during the war. Good deal of propaganda by the germans and against them.
