Virginia used tobacco as a unit of exchange. 12 million slaves in usa but only 5% in the 13 colonies; these slaves reproduced themselves. The south was a much harsher environment; landowners relied on indentured labor. Setting up a federal government to keep power and stand up for states. Both canada and us adapted this form of government from the british. Represented by population; biggest states have the most representatives. In canada, similar to the house of commons. 2 members elected from every state, for a 6-year term. Canada also has a senate- not elected like us but appointed. Any legislation passed by the congress can be overcome. Each with their own governor; propose and pass criminal laws belonging to individual states.
