Derived from small samples: casual relationships can be determined, the effects of systematically changing one or more variables are observed under controlled conditions, population, all objects that researchers want to describe or make inferences about, characteristic of pop. That researcher believes represents the pop: a group of specific size (n=) is selected and measured, characteristic of sample=statistic, the best samples for experiments are those selected randomly, unbiased, to achieve this: every element of the pop. Must be equally likely to be selected to sample group.
