Many groups and individuals attempt to influence your behaviour with statistical arguments. Knowledge of statistics enables you to evaluate arguments in a responsible manner. people who do not understand stats suffer from innumeracy. we need people who have grasped the principles of reducing a chaos of information to some kind of order. when we say that a person is "illiterate", we mean that they cannot read and write well enough to be able to communicate effectively with those who have education.
