Study to understand a scientific discipline it is necessary to know procedures for evaluating scientific evidence. Many groups and individuals attempt to influence your behaviour with statistical arguments. Knowledge of statistics enables you to evaluate arguments in a responsible manner. Innumeracy: an intellectual disability with regard to mathematics. Illiterate = cannot read/write well enough to communicate: consequences of mathematical innumeracy are not usually as obvious. Common outcomes of innumeracy: lack of numerical perspective, misunderstanding of probability, ex. in notes.
