Tools are older (i. e. , using a stick for hunting) For thousands of years, humans used tools. Tools do nothing without humans (i. e. , you use the shovel to dig a hole, the shovel cannot do that itself) You learn how the tool works, and you can learn to use it better. Tools allowed us to replace evolutionary adaption with tech. , e. g. , clothing rather than thicker skin. Species adapted to the environment, but tools help bypass that so that we don"t need to adapt to the environment. Over the last 100 years, tech has a great significance in our society. However, machines have been around for at least 3000. The automation and independent power, not its complexity (machines can be simple) Machines have independent power sources and operate without constant attention. Tools can be used for many purposes, machines typically are used for one purpose (more specialized) Tools cannot do anything w/o constant human attention.
