Darwin & wallace both have evidence for evolution by natural selection but differ because. Begain to think about geographical isolation (group of species are taken from natural home, they developed independently of one another) Marvin says that competition is important and inevitable. Artifical selection has never produced new species (ex. dogs) Travelling as an experimentalist was not common and wallace had to do it. Origin of species is a consensus : animals and human beings share many similar characteristics. People opposed this because animals and humans were so highly specialized (a hawk"s eye) and s. Intellegent design - better than darwinism because it says things evolved for a purpose. Experimentalism has little appeal for naturalists (like darwin) but for others experiment becomes dominant. We think scientific training was crucial to becoming a medical practitioner today but in the 19th century if you worked in a lab and experimented, that was good enough.
