Document Summary
Structure of iq (factor theory) - 2 views. Researcher can study by doing various tests that measure different abilities. The results of these tests are factor analyzed. Different tests are grouped based how closely the results correlate (or are related) For example a set of tests that rely on vocabulary or verbal skills might all perform closely. If there are indeed distinct factors then the second view of intelligence (i. e. distinct abilities) would be the best explanation. Spearman argued that although there are distinct factors - there are underlying similarities or correlations that exist among all the factors - which might support the first view of intelligence. He referred to this as the g factor (or an underlying measure of intelligence) Recent study in western university disputes the idea that there is one number that can account for intelligence. They found various factors, which were affected differently by things such as age, smoking habits or even computer games.
