To detemine crtical value of t using the t distribution table. Either you have compeltely different people in each group - indepenent measures. Or you have a completley different experiment and you have the same people in each group - between subjects design. This is what we are just predicting would happen But what we are actually going to do, is go and sample When we did the single sample t = one sample mean, and we found out how far it was from our prediction hypothesis, and then we found out the standar error. Now we have more than one get the avaerage difference, compare it to what we predict, and then we will divide that by the standard error. Difference between the null hypthesis will always be 0 - so the numerator is just the difference between the sample means. What we are trying to get is the signficance of the number being other than 0.
