Contralateral control: the brain is wired such that in most cases the left hemisphere receives sensations from & controls the right side of the body, & vice versa. Motor cortex: located in the frontal lobes, controls & executes movements of the body by sending signals to cerebellum & spinal cord. Somatosensory cortex: located in parietal lobe behind primary motor cortex, receives info from skin"s sensory receptors, pain, warmth, cold, touch, understands senses that pertain to body position & movement. Other areas of cerebral cortex process other types of sensory info: visual cortex, located in occipital lobe, processes visual info. Seeing stars after bad fall or punch: auditory cortex, located in the temporal lobe, responsible for hearing & language. Broca"s area: located in left frontal lobe, controls facial movements, controls production of language. Wernicke"s area: located in left temporal lobe, responsible for understanding speech.
