Recl 10 - lecture 2 - childhood: trends and challenges. Challenging but age appropriate activities are necessary for developing children. Social trends have moved away from spontaneous play to organized activities. With the number of children increasing, adult participation in organizing these healthy activities is more important than ever. Today"s children are less active than earlier generations. Today"s children may die earlier than parents. Play gives children an important opportunity to learn and explore their activities and limitations. Play allows children to develop on several areas: Motor activities contribute to brain development and are essential for organization of the nervous system. Although some adult involvement can be good, development should not be forced. At this age what infants need most is freedom and space to move. Leisure programming for optimal infant development hs become part of the leisure industry. Egocentrism : children can only see things from their point of view. Divided into two sections: toddlers and preschoolers.
