Stress unpleasant emotional state that results from perceptions of danger. Stress response to good things (ex. rollercoaster) Stressor an environmental event or stimulus that threatens an organism. Death of loved one, starting university, losing job, moving, divorce, etc. Daily hassles not much on their own but can pile up. Coping response any response an organism makes to avoid, escape from, or minimize an aversive stimulus. High blood pressure, heart & kidney failure. More colds due to weakened immune system. Not that short-term stress actually gives your system a boost. Stress can also have indirect effects on health. Overeating, lack of sleep, alcohol & drug use, etc. Emotion-focused coping attempts to prevent an emotional response to the stressor. More likely when stressors are perceived as uncontrollable & when stress levels. Problem-focused coping attempts to deal directly with the stressor to solve the problem from among them are moderate. More likely when stressors are perceived as controllable and when stress levels.
