Document Summary
Social psychology: the branch of psychology concerned with the way individuals" thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are influenced by others. Person perception: attribution processes, attitudes, behaviour in groups. Social neuroscience: deals with an examination of how structures and processes of the brain are associated with social phenomena such as prejudice and stereotyping (most recent research focus) When you interact with people, you"re constantly engaged in person perception (process of forming impressions of others) Little correlation exists between attractiveness and personality traits. Linking the beautiful with the good starts at a young age. Inferences drawn on the style of nonverbal expressiveness are fairly accurate: cognitive schemas. The categories influence the process of person perception. Self-schema is an integrated set of memories, beliefs, and generalizations about one"s behaviour in a given domain. If you do not have a self-schema relevant to a particular domain, you are referred to as being aschematic in that domain: stereotypes.
