You can measure how many times the population goes through mitosis. Eventually, after six months, the growth slows down. The cells that started off in early passage, by the time they get to late passage, they have enormous cell bodies. The resulting population of cells is entirely female. If this was inept tissue culture, the female cells should stop as well. Property of the cells, not of the tissue culture being used, so it was a real effect. As cells progress through a lifespan, these inhibitors begin to increase. These cells don"t die, they just don"t go into mitosis. Cells also remember how old they are - if you freeze cells for a couple of years and replate them, they know where they are in their lifespan.

This post is regarding a follow up on my initial post on"Properties and life cycle of chondrocytes and tenocytes".

I am elaborating on my question on the lifespan of tenocytes andchondrocytes.

From what I have read, tenocytes and chondrocytes form frommature stem cells, more specifically Mesenchymal stem cells. Thesecells can replicate through mitosis, and are present in the body indifferent tissues like bone marrow. These cells are the key in theregeneration of diverse tissues.

When the cells that inhabit tendons or cartilage die, do new MScells travel to the tendon or cartilage area and diffentiate into anew tenocyte or chondrocyte? Are tenocytes and chondrocytescontinuously replaced?

Channel A is a Na channel, channel B is a K channel and channel C is a Cl channel. The relative abundance of these three channels in the example cell membrane is 10,000(A), 500(B) and 10(C).

Assume that channel E is actually the Na K ATPase and channels A-C are as described above. You have these cells in a tissue culture dish, growing in your lab. You treat the cells with oaubain, which is glycoside that inhibits the Na K ATPase. How would that affect the movement of Na through channel A?

A. it would increase the flow into the cell

B. It would decrease flow into the cell

C. it wouldn't effect flow through channel A
