Document Summary

Organizing arranges people and resources to work toward a goal. Basic function it involves is creating a division of labour for tasks to be performed and then coordinating results to achieve common purpose. Organization structure: system of tasks, reporting relationships and communication linkage. Any structure should allocate tasks through a division of labour and provide for the coordination. Structure that does both of these things well is an important asset, helping to implement an organization strategy. As environment and situations change, structure must be often changed too. Concept of structure best in the form of an organization chart. Organization chart: describes the arrangement of work positions within an organization. Represents the way organization is intended to function. Behind every formal structure lies an informal structure: the set of unofficial relationships among an organizations members. If informal structure could be drawn it would show who talks to who and interacts regularly; show people meeting for coffee.
