RLGA02H3 Lecture Notes - Odysseus
Document Summary
Gospels tell us about the ideology of early communities. Rome was very intolerant towards christians, but constantine and odysseus helped out and rome decided to sponsor christianity as their main religion. Mosaic is the composite portrait of jesus. Starts off as a jewish sect/apocalyptic, thinking everything is going to fall of the rails. Christianity allows anyone to join, like islam and buddhists. Christian readings don"t speak about saving the people from someone else (as jews wanted to be saved from romans) but about cosmic sin. Matthew, mark, luke and john were community leaders . The new testament is considered to be revelation. Presents jesus as saviour of the gentiles (non jews) Apocalyptic urgency (repent for your sins or else) Another book in the nt called acts (believed to be written by luke) Jesus as the eternal divine son of god. Not synoptic, meaning it wasn"t made up.
