Background and context

The vascular system of plants is comprised of complex permanent tissue known as vascular tissue that is responsible for the transportation of food, water, and minerals to different parts of the plant. The vascular tissues in plants are the xylem and phloem. They always lie next to each other to form the vascular bundle. Xylem lies on the inside whereas phloem lies on the outside of the vascular bundle.
