Background and context

To distinguish between gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, the Gram stain test is utilized. Gram-positive bacteria retain the crystal violet stain of the gram stain test. On the other hand, Gram-negative bacteria do not have the crystal violet stain when a discoloring agent is applied.
