What is Typography?
noun
the style and appearance of printed matter
the art and procedure of arranging type or processing data and printing from it
o ex. paper, app, online, etc.
see typography as a message
o tattoos, logos, mural, etc.
Calligraphy
is the art of producing decorative handwriting or lettering with a pen or a brush
calligraphy is not typography
a worldwide phenomenon
o in some for found all over the world
o ex. Chinese characters, Islamic letters, etc.
Typeface
a typeface is a single set of characters in a specific design
do not confuse typeface with font
example of typeface: Helvetica Bold
Font
a single set of characters in a specific design and size
example of font: 10pt. Helvetic Bold
Type Faily
a type family is the complete variations of a typeface, in every size, slant, weight, and
width
