It is a way of thinking that is more systematic and sophisticated than everyday thinking. Theory requires us to break away from routine. If it has no foundation in practice, then it will appear disconnected or contrived (and vice versa). It encourages & inspires discussion and debate because it questions the norm. No single theory can define or cover everything. Media are the technologies that communicate messages to audiences in different areas. These are obvious & familiar to us, but more accurately described as mass media. Media are importantly defined in their social / cultural senses.
