Urinary System
Identify the structure outlined by the circle
- The cells on the left side are hepatocytes
o Moth eaten (appear patchy bc of the glycogen)
o Basophilic nuclei
- The portal triad can be seen here
- The circled yellow is the bile duct
o Simple cuboidal/low columnar epithelium
o The one on the top is the hepatic artery an the bottom is the portal vein
What layer is indicated by the bracket? Be specific
- Mucosa
- This is the gallbladder
o Must be able to differentiate bw gall bladder and urinary bladder
Idenfity the structure outlined by the yellow circle
- Islet of Langerhans (paler staining regions)
o If you zoomed in you would see the cells arranged in cords
- This is the pancreas
- Lots of serous acini

Identify the structure outlined by the yellow circle.
- )ts not a vessel bc we don’t see an endothelial lining
- But here we see a simple cuboidal epithelium so it’s a duct
- )t’s an intralobular duct
o Within the lobule
o Don’t have a lot of connective tissue and are small (whereas interlobular ducts are huge
and have a lot of CT surrounding the duct)
Todays Goals
1. Identify the kidney capsule, cortex, medulla
2. Identify the renal corpuscle, glomerulus and Bowman’s capsule.
3. Identify podocytes, endothelial cells and mesangial cells
4. Differentiate between afferent and efferent arterioles
5. Identify juxtaglomerular cells
6. Differentiate between proximal convoluted tubule and distal convoluted tubule
7. Identify the macula densa
8. Identify thin and thick portions of (enle’s loop
9. Identify collecting tubules and medullary rays
10. Compare the structure of a ureter to that of the bladder
11. Determine if a section of the bladder is in the distended or relaxed state
Kidney
- At a very low mag
- Black arrow: renal capsule
o Outer later just outside of the cortex

Document Summary

The cells on the left side are hepatocytes: moth eaten (appear patchy bc of the glycogen, basophilic nuclei. The portal triad can be seen here. The circled yellow is the bile duct: simple cuboidal/low columnar epithelium, the one on the top is the hepatic artery an the bottom is the portal vein. This is the gallbladder: must be able to differentiate bw gall bladder and urinary bladder. Idenfity the structure outlined by the yellow circle. If you zoomed in you would see the cells arranged in cords. Identify the structure outlined by the yellow circle. )ts not a vessel bc we don"t see an endothelial lining. But here we see a simple cuboidal epithelium so it"s a duct. )t"s an intralobular duct: don"t have a lot of connective tissue and are small (whereas interlobular ducts are huge and have a lot of ct surrounding the duct, within the lobule. Identify the renal corpuscle, glomerulus and bowman"s capsule.
