Coherence: does it sound true: when people leave facts of the story, people might question it and it won"t have coherence. Because if they are you will believe the story: ex: the terminal scene (tom hanks): he had a lot of patience, love, family, loyalty. Mortification: in narratives, if someone is guilty of something, there has to be absolution somehow; you have to pay for your guilt (good guys win, bad guys lose) Victimage: somebody has to pay for the guilt but that person who pays is not the guilty person. The hobbits leave from what they know, the dark knight, europeans left, etc. ) Myth: is a story that explains existence. Comedy of manners: plays in the 18th century that functioned to explain to people how they were to behave. Socialization: peasants are peasants and the elite are the elite; allowed people the understanding of how they were suppose to behave.
