Bruce trigger 3 political contexts in the revolution that affected the archaeological imagination. 1)nationalist:monuments and artefacts were used to forge the identity of the new nation states of europe during industrialization. 2)colonialist: the european colonial powers,particularly great britain, investigated the archaeology of their dependent territories in africa, india and australia. 3)imperialist: the 3 great empires of the modern world(soviet union/usa/great britain) all developed a form of world archaeology. (universal way of looking at the past, usually a single viewpoint) Processual archaeology: it champions a scientific approach, in both methods and explanation to the study of the past. Stuff from the past is turned into information about the past through methods : 1)style: assesing the degree of visual resemblance between objects. That sharing leads to the classification of types because they are stylistically similar.
