De nition: organised, sustained, self-conscious challenge to exiting power which does not address goals by the movement. These movement attract dissatis ed people who challenge the present policies in their state. They are loosely organised unlike political parties or economic interest groups. They catch the public"s eye using: street demonstrations, hunger strikes, occupation of buildings and petitions. Action campaigns only act during a short period of time. The collection of these campaigns together and organisational infrastructure is what forms the movement. Political parties come from social movements too: Other movements include peace movements, third world/antiglobalisation, lgbt movements . These movements are made up of people which are dissatis ed with the present available political parties and interest groups so therefore form their own. European"s concern for the environment was more immediate due to the high population density compared to the us (eu pop density 4 times larger than us) Environmental concerns started in 1960"s with water pollution.
