Can summon parli in the case of a leader (maj or opp) who doesn"t want to meet for fear of losing legi battles. Can dissolve parli/call election to break deadlock. Can refuse advice of pm/cabi (ex: refuse to call election soon after last election if party in power is losing grip) Especially need reserve powers in can bc can const is so vague. Prerogative powers of gg are const conventions, not enforceable in reg ways, but protect important const conventions. No widespread consensus on many of the details of these powers. This, along w/ media coverage, confused 2008 crisis.
