To psychologists, personality refers to a relatively stable pattern of thinking, feeling, and behaving that distinguishes one person from another. Some of the best-known and most widely used personality measures are self-repot inventories that require individuals to respond to statements about themselves in the form of true-or-false answers. The minnesota multiphasic personality inventory (mmpi) the most widely used self-report personality inventory and was developed in 1943 by strake hathaway and j. c. mckinley. The purpose of it so to help diagnose disorders such as depression and schizophrenia. The test was revised in order to provide current norms based on nationally representative sample and to update the content of the items. Most widely used and researched self-report measure of psychopathy. Designed for use with normal adolescents and adults. Used to predict academic achievement, understand leadership, and to study individuals in various occupations, to study the personality of drug users, and in evaluating leadership in law enforcement officers.
