Document Summary
[reminder - highlighted in blue = overlap with the lecture material, higher possibility of being on the exam] The brain as the organ of the mind. Cognitive neuroscientists assume that the brain is composed of modules. Modules = different parts of the brain, each of which is responsible for particular cognitive operations. Spurzheim: studied phrenology [def. study of shape, size, protrusions of the cranium in an attempt to discover the relationships between parts of the brain and various mental activities and abilities] The brain is the sole organ of the mind. Must exist differently developed structures in the brain responsible for differences in character/intellectual traits among people. The more highly developed a function is, the more there will be a protrusion in the cranium in that area. Localization of function: three is a direct correspondence between specific cognitive functions and specific parts of the brain.
