Document Summary

Chapter 8- firearms, tool marks, and other impressions. Each marking on a bullet is unique (individual) Drill marks may change slightly after shooting the second or more bullets. Rifling: impressing inner surface of a barrel with spirals with spiral grooves so when the bullet comes out, it actually spins and goes out rather than drop. Lands: the part that is not cut out. Caliber affects the size of the bullet used which helps us distinguish which gun has shot a specific bullet (however, this is still class classifications) To individualize a bullet, we look at striations. Striations: fine lines found in the interior of the barrel. Both the bullet and cartridge can be used to identify a gun. Two microscopes are joined together by a common eyepiece. Used to compare two bullets to see whether or not they are from the same gun. One bullet is placed with one microscope and the second bullet in another microscope.
