Official chronology states that rome was founded by romulus in 753 b. c. , but legend points to aeneas. Romulus and remus, brothers; romulus killed remus and built rome, becoming the king. Romulus was followed by 8 kings (etruscans): republic established when last was overthrown in 509 b. c.
