Due to its ability to encompass, govern, and assimilate the people of. Roman citizenship was easily attained by foreigners, and their women were better treated, more independent. Before 2c bc, marriage was a transfer of ownership; after, women retained more rights. While greek art focused on myth, roman art"s focus was on history and accuracy. Hellenism had idealized the figure, whereas romans were more meticulous in making sure their rendering were realistic; molded wax on deceased"s faces to make accurate sculptures. Sculpture was genealogical as well as political; roman families grouped in clans, or gens. Romans were the most innovative in architecture, and produced huge amounts of literature. Official chronology states that rome was founded by romulus in 753 b. c. , but legend points to aeneas. Romulus and remus, brothers; romulus killed remus and built rome, becoming the king. Romulus was followed by 8 kings (etruscans): republic established when last was overthrown in 509 b. c.
