Document Summary
Emotions are physiological, behavioural & psychological episodes experienced towards an object, person/event that create a state of readiness; usually beyond our awareness. These episodes are very brief events that typically last from msec to minutes , are directed toward someone/something, and are experiences representing changes in physiological & psychological states & behaviour vs. moods are not directed toward anything & are longer-term. Types of emotions: 1) emotions generate a global evaluation/core affect if something is good/bad, helpful/harmful, to be approached/avoided, etc. , ie. pos/neg. 2) emotions produce some level of activation/energy w/in us. These 2 features of emotions are the foundation of the circumplex model of emotions (see exhibit 4. 1, p. 94) Emotions, attitudes & behaviour: attitudes represent the cluster of beliefs, assessed feelings & behavioural intentions toward a person, object/event (attitude object). Are judgements, ie. involves conscious logical reasoning; more stable over time compared to our emotions. (see exhibit 4. 2, p. 95)
