Arg conditions are the basic elements of a cogent argument. (a) acceptable premises good reason to accept the premises. (r) relevance of premises offer support for the conclusion, state evidence. (g) good grounds considered together, the premises gives good reason to make it rational to accept the conclusion. Premises can be relevant to a conclusion without providing good grounds for it. Any argument in which the premises, taken together, deductively entail the conclusion may be said to have deductive validity. When the premises are true, the conclusion must also be true. The premises will be connected to the conclusion either in the linear support pattern, or in the linked pattern.
