Team: small number of people working together towards a common goal, who possess complementary skills. Greater task identity because several people are working on the same thing. Outperform individuals in multi-skilled tasks requiring judgment and experience. 5-12 members from the same department who meet weekly to identify methods to improve quality and efficiency. Most don"t have the authority to implement suggestions. Have authority to come up with and implement solutions. 10-15 members who share interdependent or related jobs. Can appoint their own members and leader. Members are from the same hierarchical level, but different departments to contribute vast amounts of knowledge. Difficult to manage due to diversity: skunkworks: spontaneously created to develop new products or work on problems, high tech sector, flexible structure/rules lead to work that is done quicker. Virtual teams self managed, problem solving, and cross-functional. Use computer technology to connect physically dispersed members. Less social rapport, face to face discussion, more task oriented, less satisfaction.
