BUS 272 Chapter Notes - Chapter 12: Situational Leadership Theory, Relationship Marketing, Extraversion And Introversion
Document Summary
Leadership: ability to influence a group toward the achievement of a vision or set of goals. Organizations need strong leadership and management for optimal effectiveness. Leaders should challenge the status quo, create visions of the future, and inspire organizational members: managers formulate detailed plans, create efficient structures, and oversee day-to-day operations. Big five personality: extraversion to be most predictive trait of leadership, social and dominant people, conscientiousness and openness. Traits do a better job predicting emergence of leaders than their performance as a leader. Determine leadership effectiveness by leader behaviour and can train people to become leaders. Two types of effective leadership: 1) initiating structure. Two behavioural leadership types: 1) employee-oriented leader, emphasized interpersonal relationships by taking a personal interest in employees" needs and accepting individual differences, 2) production-oriented leader, emphasized technical or task aspects of jobs, focusing on accomplishing the group"s tasks. Parts of each theory will help with leadership emergence and effectiveness.
