Orgs strive to achieve optimal person-job fit, but process complicated by indiv diff. Openness = rigidity of beliefs & range of interests. Conscientiousness = number of goals on which a person focuses. Ppl who focus on fewer tend to be more organized, systematic, thorough, careful, self-disciplined. More conscientious ppl tend to be higher performers. Agreeableness = ability to get along w/ others. More neurotic: insecure, reactive, subject to extreme mood swings. Ppl w/ less neuroticism expected to better handle job stress, pressure, tension. Locus of control = degree to which people believe that they have control over the outcome of events in their lives. Self-efficacy = belief in one"s ability to succeed in specific situations/accomplish a task. Authoritarianism = belief that power and status differences are appropriate within hierarchical social systems such as organizations.
