May interfere at any stage of communication process. Problems may arise from org factors such as status diff. Those on ends of spoke do not communicate directly. Indivs on end only communicate w/ 1 person. Typical in vertical hierarchies, comm travels up & down chain of command. Wheel = info flows b/t person at the end of each spoke & person in middle. Chain = each member communicates w/ person above & below. Circle = communicate w/ ppl on either side but not anyone else. All-channel networks = all members communicate w/ all other members. Found in informal groups w/ no formal structure/leader/task. Gatekeeper = control info moving in either direction, or thru channel. Cosmopolite = links org to external enviro. Isolate = work alone, interact/communicate little w/ others.
