GSWS 102 Chapter Notes - Chapter 3: Intersex, Cultural Feminism, Feminist Theory
Document Summary
Politics sprang from the shared belief that black women are valuable, their liberation is a necessity not in comparison to somebody else"s but also for autonomy as human persons. Liberation should not be granted just because everyone else has it but because they are human beings. No other progressive movement has ever considered their oppression as a priority or worked seriously for the ending of that oppression. Realize that people who care enough about them is themselves and that their politics derive from a sisterhood and a mutual love and respect for one another. Believe that most profound and most radical politics come directly from their own identity as opposed to working to end some body else"s oppression. From previous political movements they see that anyone is more worthy of liberation than themselves. They reject pedastals, queenhood, and walking ten paces behind. Believe that sexual politics under patriarchy is as persuasive in black.
