Rational decision making model: rational decision maker might use a model that involves a sequence of steps that are followed when making a decision, process. 1: search for relevant info to diagnose the problem, develop alternative solutions to pob, evaluate alternative solutions, choose the best solution. 6: monitor and evaluate the chosen solution. Why use group decision making: decision quality. Groups can make higher quality decisions than individuals: decision acceptance & commitment. Group decision will be more acceptable to those involved, important in getting a decisons implemented. If decision makers understand the decision and feel committed to it they are willing to see that its carried out: diffusion of responsibility. The ability of group members to share the burden of the negative consequences of a poor decision. Disadvantages of group decision making: time. Groups don"t work quickly compared to individuals. Time prob increases with group size: conflict. Participants in group may have their own issues or resources to protect.
