Motives are internal states that around and direct behaviour toward speci c objects or goals. it is often caused by a de cit, a lack of something. They vary in type, amount and intensity depending on the person and their circumstances. They are also based on needs, states of tension within a person. when a need is satis ed the sate of tension is reduced. (sometimes they are growth needs) People differ from one another in the type and strength of their motives. These differences cause or are associated with important life outcomes. Motives may provide one with answers to the question as to why people do what they do. * halfway point between intrapsychic domain and the dispositional. According to murray, a need is a potentiality or readiness to respond to a certain way under certain given circumstances it is a noun which stands for the fact that a certain trend is apt to recur.
