The rst person who looked at the picture engaged, this is known as personalizing cognition: the scene prompted them to recall a smilier event to his own life. The second person looked at the same picture and did what is known as objectifying cognition: the scene prompted them to recall objective facts about something. Cognition is a general term that refers to awareness and thinking as well as to speci c, mental acts such as perceiving, interpreting, remembering, believing, judging, deciding and anticipated.
