Week 6: wb chapter 9 social and community characteristics and their influence upon health: Four types of social support learning task: emotional (love, trust, empathy, appraisal (affirmation and feedback, informational (e. g. advice, instrumental (tangible help, money and time) Reciprocity: where you not only receive social support, but you are also given social support. Implications for building connected communities and enhancing the health of communities. Investigated how higher levels of social support redirected higher counts of cd4 cells in the blood in men with hiv over a five-year period. It should also be noted that not everyone or every network provides positive support: networks can be damaging as well as supportive. Social capital: concept of social capital builds on idea that are enshrined in the notion of social support that occurs between individuals within networks, but social capital is more concerned with whole community label perspective.
