Document Summary

Psychological disorders develop over time for most cases but there are documented cases of sudden onset ocd in kids after exposure to bacterial streptococcal infections. When immune system reacts to infection, it damages cells in the caudate, a part of the brain near its centre, related to many different functions including the control of one"s impulses. A theory of ocd is that compulsive and repetitive behaviours are ways of dealing with the lost sense of impulse control that occurs when the caudate is damaged. A category of disorders involving fear or nervousness that is excessive, irrational, and maladaptive. Most frequently diagnosed disorders and often occurring with other disorders, such as depressive or ocd, substance abuse, or problematic behaviour patterns. People cope by limiting themselves to environments, activities, and people that make them feel safe; like to do things predictably but this sti es their growth.
