PSYB01H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6: Inter-Rater Reliability, Central Tendency, Frequency Distribution
Document Summary
Descriptive research: a research design that describes what is happening. Experimental research: a research design that explores why a phenomenon occurs. Systematic observational research: the viewing and recording of a predetermined set of behaviors. Has high external validity: the extend to which study findings are applicable/generalize outside the data collection setting to other ppl, in other places, at other times. Weighing our options: to conceal or not to conceal. Potentially eliminates reactivity as well as concerns w social desirability and demand charaterisitics. Active deception: deliberately misleading participants in a study. Must be justifiable and handled w care. Coding system: a set of rules to help guide how the researcher classifies and records behaviors under observation. Duration recording: recording the elapsed time during which a beh occurs. Frequency-count recording: recording each time a target beh occurs. Observation schedule: a paper-and-pencil or electronic form where the observer notes the particulars of the beh or phenomenon they observe.
