Document Summary

Attitudes guide behavior to some extent- assumption. Researches have found another 4 functions of attitude: (cid:2) Food preferences what we like/dislike to eat help us to eat foods that are beneficial to survival and we avoid foods that may be dangerous sweet foods; help us to identify foods of nutritional value. People prefer landscapes that have water, lush trees, and bushes, semi-open space, ground cover and distant views into the horizon. We have a positive attitude toward this because: these kinds of environments offered our ancestors reliable sources of water, opportunities to hunt animals and gather food, shelter and a way to detect and hide from predators: advertising. Use utilitarian function; use neutral object and pair it w/ a positive or negative stimulus (emotionally arousing stimuli) 1 e. g. ads that use animals, babies, or attractive men/women are more likely to sell products than ads that use less intrinsically rewarding objects like cartoons or historical figures.
