C) helps determine whether treatment was effective (by measuring b4 and after) Direct: a person observes and secords the target behaviour as it occurs, most research and application in behaviour mod relies on direct assessment. This is better because indirect depends on people"s memory. Involves using interviews, questionnaires, and rating scales to obtain info on the target behaviour & target person. Direct assessment methods: defining the target behaviour, determining the logistics of recording, choosing a recording method, choosing a recording instrument. Must identify exactly what person does or says which makes it a behavioural excess or deficit targeted. It must be described using active verbs in order to describe specific behaviours that a person exhibits. Must not make judgements abt person"s intentions. A good definition means others can agree.
