Document Summary

Chapter 4: increasing a behaviour with positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement an event that, when presented immediately following a behaviour, causes that behaviour to increase in frequency (aka reward) Selecting the behaviour to be increased this will ensure reliability when detecting instances of the behaviour and increases the likelihood that the reinforcement program will be consistent. Reinforcer size the size of the reinforcer must be sufficient to increase the behaviour that you want to increase (ex. Reinforcer immediacy reinforcer should be given immediately after the desired response to maximize effectiveness. If you can"t present a reinforcer immediately following the desired behaviour, then provide instructions concerning the delay of reinforcement. Unaware-misapplication pitfall forcing a withdrawn child to look at you when you are talking will lead them to be more withdrawn. Failure to apply pitfall failing to reinforce a rare moment of desired behaviour missing an opportunity to strengthen the behaviour.
