Although freedom is a deeply cherished value in much of the world, there are contexts in which some think it should be subjugated by other values, such as preserving that which is sacred. Secularization theory: religion is on the decline & ppl around the world are discovering new secular and rational ways to make sense of their lives. 19th c, fredrich nietzche said (cid:498)god is dead(cid:499) Although religiosity has been dropping in places like scandavia and east asia, in much of the world it remains a significant force: us 94% believe in god. Ethnocentrism leads ppl to assume that their own cultures way of life is in some ways better/more natural than that of others. Kohlberg cog abilities underlie moral reasoning & that these abilities progress as indivs devlop, mature, and are educated they ways ppl conceive of what is right/wrong hinge on the stage of moral development they have reached.
