Document Summary

The personality each of us develop over the years reflects a persistent means of dealing with life"s challenges. Theodore millon identified 3 key criteria that help distinguish normal vs. disordered personality: disordered personality is indicated by rigid and inflexible behaviour. The person engages in self-defeating behaviour that fosters vicious cycles: structural instability refers to a fragility to the self that cracks under conditions of stress. Others regard personality disorder as a failure or inability comes up with adaptive solutions to life tasks. General personality disorder: a new dsm-5 category that reflects establishing whether a personality disorder first exists in general and then evaluating whether the criteria of a specific personality can also be applied. There has been a calls for a dimensional approach to personality disorders. When people with a personality disorder take general personality inventory, results are a personality with a structure that is similar to that of normal people but is simply more extreme.
