Behavior Modification: Principles & Procedures Chapter 23 – Behavioral Contracts  A behavioral contract is a written agreement between two parties in which one or both parties agree to engage in a specified level of a target behavior or behaviors, the contract also states the consequence that will be administered contingent on the occurrence (or nonoccurrence) of the behavior  There are 5 essential components of a behavioral contract: o Identifying the target behaviors o Stating how the target behaviors will be measured – must be able to prove that the target behavior did or did not occur o Stating when the behavior must be performed o Identifying the reinforcement or punishment contingency – the contract manager used positive or negative reinforcement or positive or negative punishment to help the client perform (or refrain from) the target behavior stated in the contract o Identifying who will implement the contingency  Types of behavioral contracts: o One-party contract is when one person seeks to change a target behavior and arranges reinforcement or punishment contingencies with a contract manager who implements the contingencies – the contract manager must not stand to gain from
