Document Summary
Empirical probability: probability value based on repeatedly observing the event"s outcome. Trial: every time we observe a random phenomenon. Outcome: the value of the random phenomenon noted at each trial. We are often more interested in a combination of outcomes rather than individual outcomes. Event: combination of outcomes; events are represented with letters of the alphabet, starting with letter a . Example: data for the colour of the same traffic light when passed at the same time everyday. Event: example- a = number of times you went through the intersection, so if light is green or yellow. Sample space = s = {red, yellow, green} In the long run, as the number of trials increase, the relative frequency of repeated events will get closer to a single value. Probability: the value that lln guarantees the relative frequency to settle down to, aka the single value. Relative frequency (a) = __# times a occurs___ total # of trials.
