Document Summary
Observational studies: researched do not assign choices, they simply observe them. Retrospective studies: researchers identify subjects, and collect data on their pasts. Has error because it"s based on historical data. Prospective studies: identifying subjects in advance and collecting data as events unfold. Experiment: collecting data, and then comparing data at a later time. Response variable: variable that responds to a change in the factor in an experiment. Experimental units: individuals on whom or which we experiment. Humans are often referred to as subjects or participants instead of experimental units. Levels of a factor: the specific values that the experimenter chooses for a factor. Treatment: combination of specific levels of a factor. Four principles of experimental design: control- we control sources of variation other than the factors we are testing by making conditions as similar as possible for all treatment groups.
